FARGO, N.D. - Junior Kristen Hille had 18 kills while sophomore Kelly Lopez and freshman Brooke VandenBergh added 17 each to lead North Dakota State to a crucial three-game sweep over Summit League opponent Oral Roberts 30-23, 30-25, 32-30 at the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse. The Bison improve to 19-7 on the season and 11-4 in Summit League play.
After capturing the first two games, Oral Roberts (16-13, 11-4) appeared to be in control of game three, leading 27-24. But the Bison rallied to tie the game at 29 off Hille's 18th kill. After taking the 30-29 lead, the Golden Eagles responded with a pair of rallies before NDSU sealed the match off a kill by senior Christy Stuewe.
The win moves North Dakota State into a three-way tie for second place in the Summit League standings. South Dakota State defeated Centenary in three games to move into sole possession of first place at 12-3, while IPFW edged Western Illinois in four games to improve to 11-4 in conference play. The Bison will host Centenary (2-27, 1-14) on Saturday, Nov. 10, while Oral Roberts will travel to Brookings, S.D. to face the Jacks.
Lopez had perhaps her best performance of the year, recording 21 digs along with her 17 kills. Senior libero Kari Fagnan recorded 26 digs on the evening, giving her 581 for the season and breaking the single-season digs mark that she set last season (559). Hille and Stuewe also recorded 14 digs in the three game sweep.
The Bison will look to perhaps lock up a spot in the Summit League tournament Saturday night against Centenary. Game time against the Ladies is set for 7 p.m. at the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
