Box Score 2 HAYWARD, Calif.--North Dakota State defeated Boston College 6-1 and Drexel University 14-5 during the first day of the Santa Clara University Bronco Stampede on Friday, Feb. 29, at the Alden E. Oliver Sports Complex.
North Dakota State (12-3) continues tournament play against Sacramento State at noon and Providence College at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1.
Elisa Victa and Melissa Chmielewski each delivered two-run singles in the second and fourth innings to help the Bison build a 5-0 lead over Boston College (5-7) in the opener.
Laurel Pipkin, Aimee Enzler, Nicole Rivera and Victa all came up with two hits apiece as NDSU outhit the Eagles 11-2. Enzler and Rivera both scored twice.
Allison Bakke (9-3) fashioned a two-hitter in going the distance for North Dakota State. Bakke struck out seven and walked one. She carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning.
North Dakota State used a five-run fourth and four-run sixth inning to overpower Drexel University (3-5) in the second game.
Chmielewski went 3 for 5 with three RBI, a pair of doubles and two runs scored to spark a 17-hit attack for the Bison. Jackie Currie also finished with with three hits and three RBI, while Kelly Cantrell's three-run home run in the first inning gave NDSU a fast start. It was Cantrell's second home run of the season as seven players had two or more hits.
Bekki Rasmussen (2-0) benefitted from the offense. Rasmussen allowed six hits, struck out five and walked two.
