Box Score OMAHA, NEB. ? The North Dakota State soccer team (2-1, 0-0 Summit) fell to Creighton (3-0, 0-0 MVC) Friday evening, 2-0. The first half was a back-and-forth affair, but Creighton took control in the second half.
Sophomore Marissa Wolfgram and freshman Michelle Gaffaney each had two shots on goal for the Bison, but nothing found the back of the net.
Creighton got on the board in the eighth minute when Shawn Magrum scored from just outside the penalty box. Freshman goalie Kalani Bertsch tipped the ball, but couldn't get enough to keep it out of the goal.
After the goal, the Bison put some pressure on Creighton and forced goalie Kristen Casey to make four saves. The first half was split rather evenly with NDSU tallying nine shots to Creighton's seven. Creighton had four corner kicks, while NDSU had three.
In the second half, Creighton tallied six shots in the first 13 minutes of the half. At the 58:30 mark, Emily Orbell put Creighton up 2-0 with a shot from 12 yards away. The Bluejays dominated the second half, outshooting the Bison, 19-5.
Bertsch helped keep the Bison in the game, making eight saves in the second half.
“We played pretty good soccer, but we didn't do the little things right,” said head coach Pete Cuadrado. “We need to be more aggressive on the attack.”
The Bison return to Fargo for a showdown with Minnesota Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Ellig Sports Complex. 12 of NDSU's players hail from the Land of 10,000 Lakes.
