Box Score FORT WAYNE, IND. - The North Dakota State soccer team tied IPFW in the first Summit League game of the year, 1-1, in double overtime. Junior Laura Murphy's second half goal tied the game for the Bison. NDSU is now 3-5-2 (0-0-1 Summit) and IPFW is 0-8-1 (0-0-1 Summit).
It was a physical game and the first half was peppered with fouls by both teams. IPFW had a 4-2 shot advantage in the first half and struck first with Tara O'Toole scoring off a Brittni Roy assist in the 37th minute.
In the second half, the Bison outshot the Mastodons, 10-3. Murphy tied the game for the Bison in the 76th minute. Freshman Danielle DeMent took the ball down the sideline and crossed it to Murphy in the middle, who buried the shot near post to tie the game, 1-1. It was Murphy's first goal of the season. Freshman Laura Wagner had two chances to put the Bison up in the last ten minutes, but the IPFW keeper was up to the task.
The game remained close in overtime, with both teams taking two shots in the first overtime and one each in the second overtime period. The Bison earned three corner kicks in the second overtime, but were unable to convert any of those chances.
"We gave a great effort today," said head coach Pete Cuadrado. "It's good to get on the road and get a point. We created a lot of quality scoring chances and we just have to figure out a way to get it in the back of the net. It's getting better game-by-game though."
The Bison now head to Indianapolis for a game against Summit League foe IUPUI on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. ET. The team returns home for the first time since Sept. 9 on Friday, Oct. 3 for a game against Southern Utah.
