Box Score FARGO, N.D. - The North Dakota State soccer team tallied two early goals en route to a 2-1 win over Oakland in Summit League action on Sunday, Oct. 11. The Golden Grizzlies fall to 5-7 overall and 2-2 in the Summit League.
The Bison wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as freshman Brooklyn Dyce scored on a rocket shot off a pass from junior Candice D'Arcangeli in the fifth minute. It was Dyce's fourth goal of the season and D'Arcangeli's third straight game recording a point.
NDSU took a 2-0 lead on Oakland just over six minutes later after senior Becky Iwanicki sent a cross from the right endline into the middle of the box and junior Quin Ryan fired the shot home.
Just after the second goal, sophomore goalie Kalani Bertsch made two saves on shots from Oakland's Meghan Hartwig.
The Grizzlies made it a 2-1 game in the 31st minute when Leanne Fomenko headed in a cross from Meghan Hartwig. Oakland then pushed for an equalizer, but the halftime whistle came with the Bison leading, 2-1.
The second half kicked off with Oakland still looking for a tying goal, but the Bison defense stepped up to keep the visitors off the board. The Grizzlies had five second half shots, but only forced one save out of Bertsch. NDSU had several chances to add a third goal, but couldn't put any second half shots on frame. Ryan's first half strike would hold up as the game-winner.
Bertsch made five saves in the contest and is now tied for second on the NDSU all-time saves charts with 170.
Oakland held a 15-11 edge in shots and had six shots on goal to NDSU's five.
The Bison now head to Indianapolis for a crucial Summit League battle against IUPUI (11-2, 3-0 Summit) on Friday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. Central. NDSU and IUPUI are the only two Summit League teams without a loss.
