Bishoff Sets School Record in Heptathlon at Bison Open

FARGO, N.D. - Senior Matt Bishoff broke his own school record and set a Bison Sports Arena record in the heptathlon at the Bison Open on Saturday, Feb. 7. Bishoff's score of 5,529 is also an NCAA provisional qualifying score and is currently the fifth-best heptathlon score in Division I. Earlier this season, Bishoff had set the school mark with a score of 5,128 at the Jack Johnson Classic.
Bishoff led a 1-2-3 sweep for the Bison in the heptathlon. Freshman Weston Leutz also broke the old school record in a second place finish with a score of 5,218. Ted Rud was third with a score of 5,052.
On the first day of competition on Friday, Feb. 6, Bishoff won three of the four events. Bishoff won the long jump with a leap of 22 feet 9 3/4 inches, the shot put with a mark of 43- 4 1/4 and the high jump, clearing a height of 6-5 1/2. He came in second in the 60 meter dash behind Leutz.
On Saturday, Leutz won the 60 hurdles in 8.20 seconds and Bishoff was second in 8.77. Bishoff led the way in the pole vault, clearing 16-6 3/4. He finished the day with a sixth place finish in the 1,000 meter run.
Bishoff and the rest of the Bison squad now travel to Ames, Iowa for the Iowa State Classic on Feb. 12-14.
