NDSU Men Open Competition at NCAA West First Rounds on Wednesday
5/26/2026 1:50:00 PM | Men's Track and Field
The North Dakota State men's track & field team will have 12 entries competing at the NCAA West First Rounds on Wednesday, May 27, and Friday, May 29, in Fayetteville, Ark.
The NCAA announced the 48 qualifiers in all individual events last week. The top 12 finishers in each event at the First Rounds will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 10-13.
Bison sophomore Zach Lilly was added to the javelin competition after a late injury withdrawal, pushing NDSU's number of entries from the 11 originally announced up to 12.
Senior Kaden Pastian will be the top-ranked Bison entering the meet at No. 17 in the West for the shot put. Pastian will also compete in the hammer throw.
In the decathlon, the top 24 athletes in the nation qualify directly through to the NCAA Championships without competing at the First Rounds. For the first time in the school's Division I history, the Bison will send two decathletes to Oregon, with Zach McGlynn qualifying at No. 5 in the nation and Paul Olson at No. 24.
