
Dolezal Breaks School Record in Javelin, Three Bison Qualify for NCAA Regional Championships

TEMPE, Ariz. ? North Dakota State senior Riley Dolezal set a school record of 228 feet 11 inches in the javelin and qualified for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Regional Championships at the Baldy Castillo Invitational at Arizona State on Saturday. Dolezal's meet winning throw broke the school record he had set last year by two feet and one inch.
Along with Dolezal, seniors Shawn Francis and Matt Bishoff also qualified for the NCAA Regional in the pole vault with both clearing 16-6 ¾. Bishoff's mark is good for fifth on the all-time NDSU performance charts.
Also in the pole vault, junior Cody Gronvold's mark of 16-2 ¾ is seventh on the all-time performance list at NDSU.
Freshman Weston Leutz tallied two top 10 finishes at the meet ? coming in fifth in the 110 hurdles in 14.42 and seventh in the high jump with a leap of 6-4 ¾.
In the 400 meter dash, senior Jayce Miller came in ninth in a time of 48.58. In the 800, senior Ross Schilling was third in 1:53.57 while sophomore Eric Stroh was ninth in 1:56.64. Freshman Travis Fitzke competed unattached and came in tenth in 1:57.24.
Senior James Schanandore finished fifth in the 3,000 in a time of 8:31.98.
In the long jump, sophomore Doug Scott finished fourth with a mark of 22-5 ¾ and sophomore Ted Rud was eighth with a leap of 21-10 ¼. Fellow sophomore Lee Kersting was seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 45-5 ¼.
The Bison were third in the 4x100 relay in 42.12 and fifth in the 4x400 relay in 3:18.78.
The Bison do not compete next weekend, but return to action the first week of April. The multi-event athletes head to Arizona for the Jim Click Combined Events on April 1 and 2, while the rest of the team will compete at the Sacramento Elite Invitational on April 3 and 4.
