Box Score FARGO, N.D. - After 104 scoreless minutes, North Dakota State sophomore Holly Christian scored off a rebound to break the deadlock and give the Bison a 1-0 double overtime win over Southern Utah on Saturday, Oct. 16. NDSU improves to 8-4-4 overall and 3-2-1 in the Summit League. Southern Utah is now 4-8-1 overall and 1-4 in league play.
The Bison have played a school record six overtime games this season and have a 3-0-3 record in overtime this fall. The last three straight games have gone to extra time.
Southern Utah held a 6-3 edge in shots in the first period, but junior goalie Kalani Bertsch came up with four saves in the period. At the end of the half, Bertsch made two big stops, including a save off a scramble in the box and a key save on a breakaway from the Thunderbirds' Stacey Brinkman.
Each team posted two shots in the second half, but neither goalie was tested. In the first overtime period, neither team recorded a shot.
In the second overtime period, sophomore Brooklyn Dyce's header was blocked by a defender and Christian was in the right spot to put the rebound in the left corner of the net. It was Christian's fourth goal of the season.
The Bison finish out their road swing with a non-conference game at Utah Valley Monday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m.
