Box Score OREM, Utah - Utah Valley scored two first half goals en route to a 3-0 win over North Dakota State in non-conference women's soccer action on Monday, Oct. 18. With the loss, the Bison fall to 8-5-4 on the year, while Utah Valley improves to 7-7-1.
The Bison pressured the Wolverine defense right away, notching six shots in the first 15 minutes of action. After a shot by senior Candice D'Arcangeli was saved by Wolverine goalie Lauren Sack, the home side went on the counter-attack and Katey Turner scored on a breakaway from 10 yards out to give Utah Valley a 1-0 lead.
The Wolverines doubled their lead five minutes later as Nicole Spencer's shot richoceted off the left post and into the net. The Bison tallied eight shots in the first half, but only one on goal.
In the second half, Taryn Eldredge give Utah Valley a 3-0 lead after a shot into the right corner in the 71st minute.
Sophomore Brooklyn Dyce and freshman Jenna Miller both notched shots on goal late in the half as the Bison searched for a goal.
Utah Valley held a 14-13 edge in shots and had nine shots on goal to NDSU's three.
Junior goalie Kalani Bertsch made four saves in 63 minutes of action. Sophomore Christie Stemple made her first appearance of the season, playing the final 26 minutes and making two stops.
The Bison return to Summit League play Saturday as they host South Dakota State at 12 p.m. at the Ellig Sports Complex. NDSU sits in fifth place in the league and South Dakota State (9-2-4, 4-1-1 Summit) is currently in second. The top four teams in the regular season standings advance to the league tournament Nov. 5-7.
