Box Score

FARGO, N.D. - North Dakota State senior Quin Ryan tallied the game-winning goal in the 85th minute and senior Candice D'Arcangeli notched a goal and an assist as the Bison claimed a 2-1 win over South Dakota State in a crucial Summit League contest.  The win snapped a four-game losing streak against the Jackrabbits.  The Bison improve to 9-5-4 overall and 4-2-1 in the Summit League  and jump into third place in the league standings. South Dakota State is 9-3-4 overall and 4-2-1 in the Summit League.

Bison goalie Kalani Bertsch came up big five minutes into the game, smothering a shot from Danni Healy, who had beaten her defender.

D'Arcangeli gave the Bison an early lead, volleying home a failed clearance in the 10th minute of action.  The Bison kept the pressure on the Jacks defense throughout the half, outshooting the visitors, 7-1, and forcing five saves from SDSU goalie Elisa Stamatakis.

Junior Danielle Boldenow came close to giving the Bison a 2-0 lead early in the second half as her shot ricocheted off the crossbar.  Her rebound attempt was saved by Stamatakis.

The Jacks continued to pressure the Bison, but the defense was able to clear the ball out of a couple scrambles in front of the net.  The visitors equalized in the 74th minute as Cori Bonte was able to put the ball in the back of the net after a cross was deflected.

In the 81st minute, D'Arcangeli beat her defender down the right side, but her shot went just over the bar.

Just over a minute later, D'Arcangeli again beat her defender on the right and sent a pass across the face of the goal to Ryan, who tapped it into the net for her fourth goal of the year.  It was D'Arcangeli's third assist of the season

Bertsch made five saves in the win and four of them came in the second half.  The Bison outshot the Jacks, 14-11, and notched nine shots on goals to SDSU's six.

The Bison will host Centenary and Oral Roberts next weekend to close out the regular season.  The game against Centenary will kick off at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29.  The game against Oral Roberts will be Senior Day and kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
