Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

TEMPE, Ariz.--Melissa Chmielewski hit a two-out grand slam home run in the top of the seventh inning to lift North Dakota State University to a 5-0 win over Ohio University at Farrington Stadium in the first of two games Saturday, Feb. 13, during the second day of Arizona State's Kajikawa Classic.

The Bison (3-1) lost 6-0 to No. 4/6-ranked Arizona in the second game. NDSU closes out tournament play against Purdue University at 10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 14.

Ohio University (0-5), who lost 4-3 to No. 1-ranked Washington on Friday, limited the Bison to only four hits through the first six innings. Taking advantage of an error and a pair of base hits, Elisa Victa delivered a RBI single to left with bases loaded to put NDSU ahead 1-0.

Chmielewski, a senior from Circle Pines, Minn., deposited her fourth career grand slam over the right field fence to extend the lead. Chmielewski and Nicole Rivera each had two hits to pace North Dakota State. It was Chmielewski's second home run of the season.

Sophomore Randi Parks (2-0) recorded a three-hit shutout for the Bison. It was the second career shutout for Parks, who issued two walks and had no strikeouts. NDSU didn't commit an error and turned its first double play of the season behind her. Melissa Bonner picked up the loss for the Bobcats, recording five strikeouts and one walk. Bonner didn't allow an earned run.

North Dakota State kept pace with the nationally-ranked Wildcats early. Freshman Whitney Johnson didn't allow a hit through the first four innings. Johnson worked the first 4.2 innings, walking eight and striking out six. Parks finished the final 2.1 frames.

Leading 1-0, Arizona erupted for five runs in the top of the fifth inning to break the game open. Brigette Del Ponte's bases-loaded double to center with two outs. Sarah Akamine picked up the win for the Wildcats. Akamine struck out six and walked one.

Chimielewski went 2 for 3 for North Dakota State and Brea Konz added a double.
