Box Score SANTA BARBARA, Calif.-- North Dakota State University took advantage of five errors to score three unearned runs to defeat Memphis 6-1 on Friday, Feb. 26, during the second day of the UC Santa Barbara Gaucho Classic at Campus Diamond. The Bison have won four straight and are 3-0 in the tournament.
North Dakota State (8-5) is scheduled to close out Gaucho Classic play against Wisconsin (3-9) at 12:45 p.m. (Central) and host UC Santa Barbara (5-9) at 3 p.m. (Central) on Saturday, Feb. 27.
The Bison scored their first two runs against Memphis (6-4) without getting a hit with two outs and Taylor Lynn was involved in both situations. Lynn finished with two runs scored, drew a pair of walks, had a base hit and added one RBI.
Lynn led off the second inning with a walk. She moved to third on Brea Konz sacrifice bunt and Memphis error. Lynn scored on the second Tigers error of the inning to put NDSU ahead 1-0.
With two outs in the third, North Dakota State extended the lead to 2-0 when Lynn scored on a four-base error on a bunt.
The Bison scored four times in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend the advantage to 6-0. Taylor Mortensen delivered a key RBI single to right field and Lynn was issued a bases-loaded walk to push across another. NDSU also took advantage of an error and passed ball to chase home the other two runs.
Nicole Rivera went 2 for 4 with one run scored as North Dakota State outhit Memphis 5-2.
The Tigers broke up Whitney Johnson's shutout bid in the seventh inning on Kailey Kassner's run-scoring single. Leigh Rowan had the other base hit in the second inning.
Johnson won her fourth straight decision to improve to 6-3. She struck out seven and walked three. Johnson has allowed only 14 hits and one earned run over her last 36 innings.
Vanessa Walle (3-2) and Lauren Carley pitched for Memphis with Walle recording the loss. Walle struck out four, but walked five and allowed three hits over 3.2 innings.
