Box Score COLLEGE STATION, Texas--Meagan May went 3 for 3 with a pair of doubles and a home run as No. 21/24 Texas A&M defeated North Dakota State 5-2 in the Aggie Invitational before 758 spectators at the Aggie Softball Complex. The Bison finish 3-2 at the tournament.
North Dakota State (14-9) is scheduled to play at the University of Houston (13-9, 3-0 Conference USA) at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, and at Sam Houston State (9-14, 3-6 Southland) at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 17.
The Bison jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning against Texas A&M (22-6). Nicole Rivera and Elisa Victa each reached on infield singles to start the frame. Melissa Chmielewski came up with a RBI base hit to send Rivera home.
The Aggies tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second on Melissa Dumezich's RBI single with two outs.
North Dakota State regained the advantage at 2-1 in the top of the fifth inning. Laure Pipkin received a one-out walk and moved to second on Rivera's second infield hit of the game. Pipkin scored on Victa's single through the right side.
Texas A&M scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to gain the lead for good at 3-2. Pinch-hitter Kara Rau had the only hit, a two-out RBI single, in the inning as the Aggies also took advantage of a walk, a wild pitch and NDSU error.
May put the game out of reach in the bottom of the sixth inning with her 10th home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field.
Each team finished with seven hits. Rivera and Victa both had two hits for the Bison. Macie Morrow added two hits for Texas A&M.
Rebecca Arbino (11-3) picked up the win for the Aggies. Arbino allowed five hits, struck out four and walked two over the first five innings. Dumezich recorded the save with three strikeouts and a walk over the final two.
Whitney Johnson (9-7) recoreded the loss for NDSU. She struck out six and walked six over six innings.
