Box Score SHREVEPORT, La.--Maryssa McKenzie hit her second home run of the season, and Melissa Chmielewski and Richel Briones each hit a pair of doubles as North Dakota State defeated Centenary College 11-3 in six innings to complete a Summit League series sweep Saturday, March 20, at the CC Softball Complex.
North Dakota State (3-0 Summit, 18-12), which has won four of its last five games, is scheduled to continue league play at IUPUI (1-5 Summit, 4-14) for a three-game series March 26-27 in Indianapolis.
The Bison exploded for 10 runs over the final three innings including six in the sixth inning.
NDSU broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning to take the lead for good at 3-1. Briones doubled to left center and McKenzie hit a two-run home run to left center. Briones finished 3 for 4, while McKenzie went 2 for 3.
North Dakota State extended the lead to 5-1 in the fifth inning. Chmielewski, who went 2 for 4 with two runs and four RBI, smacked a run-scoring double to left center to score Elisa Victa from first base. Chmielewski later scored on an error. Victa was walked three times in the game.
The Bison sent 11 batters to the plate in the sixth inning, and took advantage of four hits, a pair of walks and error to score. Chmielewski had the big hit, a bases-clearing double to right center. Nicole Rivera and Briones also had RBI singles in the inning.
Centenary (2-5 Summit, 8-14) scored twice in the bottom of the sixth on Bonnie Matak's two-run home run.
Whitney Johnson (13-8) limited the Ladies to four hits. She struck out six and walked two to collect her third complete game win in the series. Centenary used three pitchers with Sara Dornelas (7-9) picking up the loss. The trio allowed 11 hits, walked five and struck out two.
