Box Score 2 BROOKINGS, S.D.--Melissa Chmielewski went 6 for 6 with three runs scored and three walks as North Dakota State split with South Dakota State, winning the first game 6-3 and dropping the second 6-2, in a Summit League women's softball doubleheader played Saturday, May 8, played before 116 at Jackrabbit Softball Stadium.
North Dakota State (30-22, 14-7 Summit) reached 30 wins for the fouth straight season. NDSU will host the Summit League Tournament on May 14-15 at the Ellig Sports Complex.
The Bison overcame a three-run first inning deficit with a four-run third inning in the opener. Brea Konz belted a two-run double, while Laurel Pipkin and Taylor Lynn each had RBI singles to highlight the inning.
North Dakota State pounded out 15 hits led by Pipkin's 4 for 5 effort at the plate that included a pair of RBI. Chmielewski had her first of two 3 for 3 performances at the plate. Elisa Victa, Nicole Rivera and Konz each had two hits.
Whitney Johnson (23-16) picked up the win. Johnson struck out eight, allowed six hits and walked three. Pam Nicholson (5-14) was tagged with the loss. Nicholson struck out six and walked five.
South Dakota State (19-30, 11-9 Summit) scored three runs in the first and fifth inning to win the second game. Marlee Petersen's bases-loaded double broke open a 3-2 contest in the bottom of the fifth for the Jackrabbits.
SDSU outhit the Bison 10-6. Devon Reick, Kelsey Lunn, Krista Honken and Petersen each had two hits for the Jackrabbits.
Chmielewski led NDSU with a pair of doubles and a single in three trips to the plate.
Kori Seidlitz (14-16) earned the win for South Dakota State. Seidlitz struck out three and walked one. Randi Parks (7-7) picked up the loss. Parks struck out four and walked two.
