Box Score OMAHA, Neb. ? The North Dakota State soccer team tied its second straight game with a 2-2 double overtime draw with Creighton on Tuesday, Sept. 7. The Bison are now 2-0-2 and Creighton is 2-2-2.
The Bluejays struck first as Laura Cingoranelli scored in the fifth minute off a pass from Emily Orbell.
The Bison leveled the score after junior Michelle Gaffaney put the ball in the net off a corner kick from junior Abbey Stratton in the 13th minute. It was Gaffaney's first goal of the season.
Senior Quin Ryan scored her second goal of the season 11 minutes later. Freshman Katie Tallas crossed the ball from the end line and Ryan knocked the ball into the lower left corner from the top of the box and NDSU took a 2-1 lead into halftime.
The Bison continued to pressure the Creighton defense at the beginning of the second half as Ryan, senior Candice D'Arcangeli, junior Morgan DeMike and sophomore Holly Christian all tallied shots in the first seven minutes of the half.
Creighton tied the game in the 78th minute after Brittney Neumann put in a shot from a sharp angle.
The Bluejays had a corner kick in the final 10 seconds of regulation, but the Bison defense cleared the ball out of danger.
NDSU pushed for a winner in overtime, outshooting Creighton 6-2 in both overtime periods. The team tallied three shots in the first overtime, but none of them on frame.
Junior goalie Kalani Bertsch made a save early in the second overtime and Ryan forced a save at the other end moments later. Junior Danielle Boldenow had the final chance of the game in the 108th minute, but Katie Jo Swanson came up with the save.
The Bison now travel to Miami, Fla. to play in the Hurricane Cup against Florida Atlantic and host Miami. NDSU takes on Florida Atlantic at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10 and Miami at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12.
