Box Score ROCHESTER, Mich. - The North Dakota State soccer team lost a hard-fought contest to Oakland, 2-1, in the Summit League tournament final on Sunday, Nov. 6. The Golden Grizzlies earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Seniors Abbey Moenkedick, Michelle Gaffaney and Danielle Boldenow earned All-Tournament honors for their performances this weekend.
The Bison (15-4-2) had four chances at goal in the first 35 minutes, but Gaffaney and Holly Christian had headers saved by Oakland goalie Anne Berschbach.
After an NDSU foul just outside box, Julianne Boyle gave the Golden Grizzlies (10-10-1) a 1-0 lead at the 39:28 mark in the first half, putting a free kick over the wall and the outstretched fingers of keeper Kalani Bertsch.
The Grizzlies extended their lead to 2-0 in the 51st minute as Meghan Reynolds scored after getting behind the Bison defense.
NDSU continued to push for a goal to get back into the game as Gaffaney and Kaylee McDonald had shots saved by Berschbach.
The Bison pulled one back at the 82:05 mark as Gaffaney scored her sixth of the season off an Anisha Kinnarath free kick. The duo also combined for a goal in Friday's semifinals.
After the goal, the urgency increased in the hunt for the equalizing goal. Despite constant pressure, the Bison could not get any chances at goal.
NDSU finished the game with an 11-6 advantage in shots and a 6-4 edge in shots on goal. Bertsch made two saves, while Berschbach had five for Oakland.
