North Dakota State Falls at Oakland, 2-1

Box Score

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The North Dakota State women's soccer team fell behind 2-0 in the first 20 minutes and was unable to erase the deficit, falling 2-1 at Summit League preseason favorite Oakland University on a rainy Friday evening.

Oakland (5-3-3, 2-0-0 Summit) got on the scoreboard twice in the game's first twenty minutes with goals from junior Abigail Haelewyn and senior Marlen Knoph in the 8th and 19th minutes, respectively.

North Dakota State (4-7-0, 1-1-0 Summit) got a late goal when freshman Lizzie Lukas scored on a volley off an Anisha Kinnarath corner kick to cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 78th minute, but the Bison could not net the equalizer over the final 12 minutes of the contest.

Lukas' goal was her third of the season, tying her for the team lead.

NDSU redshirt freshman goalkeeper Sierra Bonham recorded nine saves in the match for her third-highest save total of the season. Bonham has registered six or more saves in eight of her 10 appearances this year, and she is on pace to set the Bison single-season record with her average of 7.0 saves per match.

Oakland outshot NDSU 18-12 overall and held an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal. NDSU owned a 4-2 edge in corner kicks, with Kinnarath taking the one that led to Lukas' goal.

The Bison fired off 11 of their 12 shots in the second half.

Freshman Meghan Johnston took a season-high three shots for the Bison, while Kinnarath led the team with four.

The Bison will play at Fort Wayne on Sunday, Oct. 7, at 11 a.m. (CT).
