
North Dakota State Outlasts Minnesota-Crookston 68-65

FARGO, N.D.--Katie Birkel scored a game-high 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead North Dakota State to a 68-65 win over inspired University of Minnesota-Crookston in a women's exhibition basketball game played Thursday, Nov. 1, before 883 fans at the Bison Sports Arena.
North Dakota State is scheduled to host Minnesota State Moorhead in its final exhibition game at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1. The Bison open the regular season against Harvard University at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9.
Birkel led a trio of NDSU players in double-figures. Dani DeGagne netted 15 points, had six assists and came up with four steals. Hannah Linz came off the bench to score 10 points.
North Dakota State rallied from an early seven-point deficit and led 34-30 at halftime. The Golden Eagles were sparked by Cienna Walker, who scored nine of her 13 points in the opening period.
The Bison built its biggest lead at 61-50 with 6:57 left on a Linz three-pointer.
Brittani Wiese led Minnesota-Crookston's comeback and scored her team's last seven points. The Golden Eagles twice cut the deficit to three-points in the final minute. Wiese led UMC with 15 points.
Minnesota-Crookston hit 43.3 percent from the field compared to 41.3 percent for NDSU. The teams combined to make only 8 of 40 from the three-point line. The Bison held a 46-37 rebounding advantage, but also held a 17-15 edge in turnovers.
