
Colwell Ties Hits Record as Bison Sweep Doubleheader From Bears 11-2, 18-4

GREELEY, Colo. - Nick Colwell tied a school record with five hits and North Dakota State scored in all seven innings of an 18-4 victory over Northern Colorado in the second game of a college baseball doubleheader Saturday, Feb. 25, at Jackson Field.
Colwell was 3-for-5 with a double and triple in the opening game, Tim Colwell was 3-for-5, and Nick Anderson hit a grand slam in an eight-run second inning as NDSU cruised to an 11-2 win.
Luke Anderson pitched all seven innings in the opener for the Bison (4-2). Anderson allowed nine hits, struck out one and walked none. He needed only 76 pitches to finish the scheduled seven-inning contest.
David Ernst threw three innings of relief and was credited with the win in the nightcap. Jake Heck and Kyle Kingsley each pitched one scoreless inning before the game was called by the 10-run rule.
NDSU sent 12 batters to the plate in its eight-run second inning in the opener. Anderson led off with a single, Michael Leach walked and Max Casper hit a two-run double to start the scoring. All four runs on Anderson's grand slam were unearned after a two-out infield error.
Adam Hilker and Ben Packard each had two hits for UNC (0-3) in the first game. Harrison Lambert had an RBI single in the fifth and Ryan Yamane had a run-scoring hit in the sixth. Starter Nate Steinmetz lasted 1 2/3 innings in the loss.
NDSU pounded out 22 hits in the second game, including three each for Anderson, Tyler Steen, Wes Satzinger and Zach Wentz. Anderson, Nick Colwell and Kyle Kleinendorst had three RBIs apiece.
The Bison led 4-2 after two innings before breaking it open with four runs in the third. Anderson hit a leadoff double on an 0-2 pitch, Steen singled him in, Blake Turbak added an RBI groundout later in the inning, and Wentz hit a two-out RBI double to make it 8-2.
Kleinendorst hit a two-out, two-run triple in the fifth and scored on an Anderson single to give NDSU a 12-3 lead.
Dylan Banach had a single and triple for UNC and Adrian Schenk drove in two runs for the Bears. Starting pitcher Jess Amedee gave up six runs on nine hits in 2 1/3 innings and took the loss.
The final game of the series is scheduled for 12 p.m. MST on Sunday, Feb. 26.
