NDSU Baseball Tops St. Thomas in Season Finale, 10-6

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The North Dakota State baseball team earned a series split after topping St. Thomas, 10-6, in the season finale at Koch Diamond on Saturday afternoon.
Tommy Simon got the Bison (13-32, 9-16 Summit) off to a fast start with a two RBI single in the second inning to make the score 2-0. Tyman Long increased the lead to 3-0 in the fourth after he delivered an RBI double down the left line. Chase Womack kept the momentum going in the fifth with an RBI single of his own before Simon pushed the edge 5-0 on an RBI bases-loaded walk.
After Bennett Freiter added another RBI bases-loaded walk in the sixth, Kyle Law cracked the game open in the seventh with a two-run double down the left line to stretch the lead to 8-0. Dante Smith capped the seventh inning with an RBI single to make the score 9-0.
The Tommies (12-38, 9-18 Summit) answered in the seventh with four runs on four hits to cut the deficit down to 9-4 following a three-run homer off the bat of Easton Fritcher. Simon once again responded for NDSU in the eighth after he delivered an RBI double to deep left center to push the lead to 10-4. The Bison held off the Tommies the rest of the way for the 10-6 victory.
NDSU totaled 10 hits as a team with Simon connecting on a career-best three hits on three appearances. The Fargo, N.D., native also posted a game-high four RBI with one run.
Jonah Walker (3-5) tied a season-high six strikeouts across 6.0 innings with three hits, two walks and no runs in the start. Cade Wiegert added one strikeout over 2.0 innings of relief, while Hudson Hart picked up his second save of the season finishing the final frame with one strikeout.
