NDSU Baseball Drops 9-7 Decision Against Northern Colorado

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State baseball team dropped a 9-7 decision against Northern Colorado on Senior Day on Sunday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field.
The Bison (11-30, 7-14 Summit) plated three runs in the opening frame to grab a 3-0 lead after Dante Smith connected on a two-run double and Bennett Freiter added an RBI ground out. Brett Barber answered for the Bears (15-34, 12-13 Summit) in the second inning with a two-run single to make the score 3-2. Chase Womack responded for NDSU with an RBI single of his own in the bottom half to push the edge to 4-2.
The Bears then posted three runs on three hits in the fourth inning to steal a 5-4 advantage after Jaden Stone connected on an RBI single. Northern Colorado added three more runs in the fifth inning to double up NDSU, 8-4, after Sam Pease scored on a wild pitch. The Bears went on to hold off the Bison the rest of the way for the 9-7 win.
NDSU tallied nine hits as a team with Smith going 3-of-4 at the plate with three RBI, two runs and one home run. It marked his fourth straight multi-hit game.
Jonah Walker (2-5) made the start with two strikeouts over 3.2 innings. Braden Gluth added 4.1 innings of relief with two strikeouts and Hudson Hart closed out the final frame.
NDSU will wrap up regular season play with a four-game series at St. Thomas beginning on Thursday. The doubleheader, which includes a rescheduled game from April 4, is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
