Four Return Touchdowns Spark 56-10 Bison Rout at Indiana State

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – No. 1-ranked North Dakota State scored four return touchdowns and rolled to its 17th straight victory 56-10 over Indiana State before a crowd of 5,009 at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 26.
 
Colten Heagle had a 35-yard interception return, Ryan Smith tied a 1923 school record with a 100-yard kickoff return, and Christian Dudzik had punt return touchdowns from 43 and 68 yards out.
 
Quarterback Brock Jensen finished 13 of 14 passing for 186 yards and a career-high four touchdowns for NDSU (8-0, 5-0 MVFC).  He connected with Zach Vraa from 11 and 29 yards, Smith on a 20-yard play, and Trevor Gebhart from the 3-yard line.
 
North Dakota State had a 49-10 lead by halftime, the most points at the break for NDSU since 2000 against Minnesota State Moorhead in an 80-0 victory.  The Bison had a 282-44 advantage in total yards with the Sycamores (1-7, 0-4 MVFC) getting none through the air.
 
For Heagle, it was his third career interception and first for a touchdown.  Smith tied the 1923 record of a 100-yard kickoff return touchdown set by Elmer Parisien against South Dakota.  Dudzik scored his first two career touchdowns.
 
Vraa had seven receptions for 122 yards and six other Bison players caught passes.  NDSU's Sam Ojuri ran for 54 yards and Jensen was the second-leading rusher with 46 yards including runs of 24 and 16 yards for first downs.
 
Heagle led the NDSU defense with seven tackles, Ryan Drevlow had a career-high three sacks for 19 yards and had a fourth tackle for loss, and the Bison combined for nine sacks on the day and 15 stops in the backfield.
 
North Dakota State is off next week before hosting Illinois State in the annual harvest bowl game at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome.
