MACOMB, Ill. – Despite a career-high 15 saves from goalkeeper Sierra Bonham, the North Dakota State women's soccer team fell to Western Illinois, 1-0, Sunday, Oct. 6, in Macomb. The loss drops the Bison to 5-7 overall and 1-1 in Summit League play while the Leathernecks improve to 5-6-1 and 1-1 in league competition.
The winning goal of the match occurred early. Western Illinois' Sarah Hall controlled a cross and was able to direct the ball past Bonham into the back of the net just 10 minutes into the match to give WIU the 1-0 advantage.
NDSU was outshot by Western Illinois, 31-10, and only had three shots-on-goal compared to 16 for the home team.
Bonham's 15 saves were the third-most in NDSU soccer history and the most since Renee Keller's program record 18 saves against Minnesota-Duluth Sept 10, 1995.
The Bison will look to bounce back when they host Omaha Friday, Oct. 11, at 5 p.m. at Dacotah Field in Summit League play.
