BANGOR, Maine – The North Dakota State Bison women's basketball team (1-1) fell to the Maine Black Bears (1-0), 64-59, Thursday, Nov. 14, at the new Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
The Bison jumped out to as much as a 13-point lead in the first half, but, were held without a field goal the final 4:57 of the opening stanza, allowing the Black Bears to narrow the Bison advantage to just three at the half, 37-34.
Brooke LeMar led NDSU in the first half with 12 points. Ashleigh Roberts paced Maine, scoring eight points.
The Bison went 16-for-31 (52-percent) from the field in the opening stanza and were 4-for-7 from three (57-percent). NDSU only took two free-throws in the first half, going 1-for-2.
The Black Bears were 13-for-30 in the half (43-percent) and 3-for-9 from three (33-percent). Maine was 5-of-10 from the charity stripe.
Maine out-rebounded NDSU, 21-14, in the opening half.
The Bison saw their lead disappear with 19:03 remaining in the second half after the Black Bears' Lauren Bodine nailed a three, giving them their first lead of the game, 39-37.

Liz Keena's layup brought the Bison back to within five with three-minutes remaining, 59-54. Keena pulled NDSU within 59-57 with 1:06 remaining, but the Black Bears hit key free-throws in the final minute to hang-on for the 64-59 win.
NDSU was 21-for-58 from the field (36-percent) and 4-for-12 from three (33-percent) in the game. The Bison went 13-of-18 from the free-throw line (72-percent).
LeMar led the Bison with 12 points in the game, all coming in the first half.
Bree Whatman was the other Bison to reach double-figures, scoring 11.
Maine went 20-for-62 from the field (32-percent) and were 7-for-21 from three (33-percent). The Black Bears shot 17-of-25 from the foul line (68-percent).
Maine out-rebounded NDSU, 46-38, in the contest.
Roberts led the Black Bears with a game-high 18 points.
The Bison will look to bounce back Saturday, Nov. 16, when they travel to Cambridge, Mass. to battle 25th-ranked Harvard. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. CT / 2 p.m. ET. Air time on 740-AM is set for 12:40 p.m.
