FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The third-seeded North Dakota State women's soccer team (9-9) advanced to The Summit League Women's Soccer Championship match with a 2-1 victory against second-seeded South Dakota State (11-5-2) in opening round play Friday, Nov. 8.
The Bison will meet 14th-ranked and top-seeded Denver in the championship match Sunday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m. CT at Hefner Soccer Complex in Fort Wayne after the Pioneers rolled to a 3-0 win over fourth-seeded Fort Wayne in the first opening round match of the tournament.
NDSU took the 1-0 lead in the 33rd-minute after
Anisha Kinnarath netted a
Lauren Miller pass. It's Kinnarath's eighth goal of the season. Miller's assist is her team-high sixth of the year.
The Bison extended their lead to 2-0 in the 65th-minute after Miller scored her team-high 10th goal off an assist from Kinnarath, her third overall. The Jackrabbits pulled to within 2-1 less than a minute later on an Alyssa Brazil goal but that would be as close as they'd get as the Bison locked down on defense for the 2-1 victory.
NDSU was outshot in the match by SDSU, 15-9, and only took two corner kicks compared to seven from the Jackrabbits.
Bison goalkeeper
Sierra Bonham made seven saves, going to full-90 between the pipes to pick up her eighth win of the year and move to 8-8 in goal. Nicole Inskeep took the loss between the pipes for South Dakota State.
With the win, the Bison improve to 9-9 overall while SDSU drops to 11-5-2.
