Bonham’s Career-High 13 Saves Not Enough as NDSU Soccer Falls to Minnesota 4-1

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- North Dakota State women's soccer goalkeeper Sierra Bonham set a new career-high for saves in a match with 13, but it wasn't enough, as the Bison (1-1-0) fell to the Minnesota Golden Gophers (2-0-0) 4-1 on a warm Sunday afternoon in Minneapolis in the final match of the Minnesota Golden Gopher Tournament. Anisha Kinnarath provided the lone goal for NDSU.

The Gophers took a 1-0 lead early after Katie Thyken scored in the third minute of the match. Minnesota added to its lead in the 27th minute when Josee Stiever got a goal to make it 2-0 Gophers. The score remained 2-0 after the first 45 minutes.

Minnesota jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 56th minute of the match after Taylor Stainbrook scored. The Bison were able to cut the deficit to 3-1 in the 63rd minute on Kinnarath's second goal of the season but the Gophers answered right back, increasing their lead to 4-1 with another Stainbrook goal in the 75th minute.

Bonham took the loss in-goal for the Bison, dropping her record to 1-1-0 on the season. Kristen Knutson picked up the win for the Gophers to improve to 2-0-0 overall in-goal.

The Bison will look to bounce back when they open a two match road trip in New York beginning Friday, Aug. 30 against Hofstra University in Long Island at 4 p.m. CST.
