NDSU Bison Soccer Falls to Hofstra 3-1 Friday in The Big Apple

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The North Dakota State Bison soccer team (1-2-0) fell to the Hofstra Pride (1-2-0) Friday, Aug. 30, in New York City, 3-1.

Hofstra struck early, netting a goal in the 11th minute on a header from Sam Scolarici to take a 1-0 lead. The Pride would double their advantage in the 37th minute when Jeannie Molleda slid a ball past Bison goalkeeper Sierra Bonham. Hofstra went into halftime with the 2-0 lead.  

The Pride increased the lead to 3-0 in the 61st minute of the match when Ruby Staplehurst chipped a ball toward the goal that bounced over Bonham's head and into the back of the net.

The Bison got a goal back in the 77th minute though when Lauren Miller beat a Hofstra defender in a one-on-one challenge in the box and smashed the ball into the back of the net to cut the deficit to 3-1. It marked Miller's first goal of the regular season and first official goal as a Bison.

Hofstra outshot the Bison in the match 32-11, including a 15-3 advantage in shots-on-goal and had seven corner kicks compared to zero for NDSU.

Bison goalkeeper Sierra Bonham posted 12 saves in the match, going all 90 minutes, but took the loss to drop her record to 1-2-0 on the season.

The Bison will look to get back in the win column Sunday evening when they travel to Queens, N.Y. to face Big East member St. John's at 6 p.m. The match Sunday evening will be streamed live on ESPN3. For a link to the live stream please visit GoBison.com.
