NDSU Soccer Falls to Boise State in Double Overtime, 1-0

Box Score

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State Bison soccer (3-5-0) dropped a 1-0 contest in double overtime to the Boise State Broncos (3-2-2) Friday, Sept. 13 at Dacotah Field.

The Bison and Broncos battled back and forth the first half. NDSU had an early opportunity ten minutes into the match when Lauren Miller found room near the top of the box, but her shot was blocked by the Boise State defense. The Broncos had a chance of their own just two minutes later when Anna Popma caught Bison goalkeeper Sierra Bonham off guard and away from the net; but, the NDSU backline was able to thwart the Boise State threat and keep the match scoreless.

The second half was much similar to the first half as neither team was able to find the back of the net despite a combined nine shots taken. Bonham helped keep the Broncos off the board late in the second half, saving two Boise State shots the final four minutes of regulation to keep the match scoreless and force overtime.

The first overtime saw the Broncos push forward early, but Bonham came up huge again, making another critical save to keep the game all-square and force a second and decisive overtime period at Dacotah Field.

The Broncos broke through in the final overtime period after Brooke Heidemann controlled a rebound off the post and was able to slide it just out of reach of Bonham, sealing the win for Boise State.

The Bison were outshot by the Broncos 16-8 in the match and took only one corner kick compared to seven from the visitors.

Bonham went all 102 minutes between the pipes, making four saves, but took the loss to fall to 2-4-0 overall. Maddy Mcdevitt made one save and picked up the win for Boise State in goal.

The Bison return to the pitch next Friday, Sept. 20 when they host the Doublewood Inn Classic at Dacotah Field. Eastern Washington and SIU-Edwardsville will kick-off the classic beginning at 4 p.m. before the Bison battle Colorado State at 7 p.m. The classic concludes Sunday, Sept. 22 with the first match of the day featuring SIU-Edwardsville and Colorado State at 11 a.m. before the Bison finish the weekend of soccer with a 2 p.m. match against Eastern Washington.
