NDSU Women’s Soccer Plays to 1-1 Tie at Omaha Friday Night

OMAHA, Neb. – The North Dakota State University women's soccer team (5-6-1, 1-1-1 Summit) played to a 1-1 tie against the Omaha Mavericks (3-8-2, 1-0-2 Summit) on Friday, Oct. 10, at Caniglia Field on the UNO campus. It marked the first tie for the Bison since the 2011 season.
The Mavericks opened the scoring first after Hannah Wampler converted a penalty kick goal in the 29th-minute to put the Mavericks up, 1-0.
NDSU was able to equalize in the 80th-minute after Amy Yang scored her second goal in as many matches on a shot to the bottom right corner of the net. It was also Yang's second goal of the season.
Neither team was able to score in the final 10 minutes of regulation or the two, 10-minute, sudden-death overtime periods, sealing the 1-1 tie.
For the match, NDSU was outshot by Omaha, 20-8, and was held to three corner kicks compared to eight for the home side.
NDSU goalkeeper Sierra Bonham made nine key saves and allowed the one Omaha goal to improve her record between the posts to 5-6-1 overall.
UNO goaltender Haley Shelton made two saves in the match and allowed one goal to move to 2-6-2 on the season in goal.
The Bison are scheduled to return to action on Sunday, Oct. 12, at South Dakota. First kick is slated for 1 p.m. in Vermillion, S.D.
