VERMILLION, S.D. – The North Dakota State University Bison women's soccer team (5-6-2, 1-1-2 Summit) posted a 2-2 tie at South Dakota (8-4-2, 1-0-2 Summit) on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 12. The match marked the first time the Bison have had back-to-back ties since the 2010 season.
Gaby Arnquist and Anisha Kinnarath each tallied their first goals of the season in the match, while Amy Yang and Lauren Miller each dished out assists. The assist was Yang's team-high fifth of the season, while Miller's was her first of the season.
Elena Tsakakis and Colleen Reeves scored goals for South Dakota.
After the Coyotes jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a goal from Tsakakis in the 11th-minute, Arnquist scored for the Bison to level the match at one in the 22nd-minute on a corner-kick from Yang. Just four minutes later in the 26th-minute, Kinnarath gave NDSU a 2-1 lead after she controlled a pass from Miller and slid it home from the left side of the field. The lead didn't hold though, as Reeves equalized for the Yotes in the 41st-minute, four minutes before the end of the first-half.
In the second-half, each team tallied five shots, but none were able to find the back of the net after 45 minutes, sending the match to sudden-death overtime.
NDSU had a chance to claim victory in the 92nd-minute of the first overtime period, but Miller's shot was saved by the South Dakota defense, and the Bison were held without a shot the final eight minutes, advancing the contest to a final, sudden-death, 10-minute extra time period.
The Coyotes nearly found the game-winning goal twice in the final overtime frame, but Bison goalkeeper Sierra Bonham made two critical saves in the 104th and 107th minutes to seal the 2-2 draw.
South Dakota outshot the Bison in the match, 17-13, while NDSU posted a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks taken.
Bonham moved her record in goal to 5-6-2 overall after making five saves and allowing two goals in 110-minutes between the pipes, while USD goalkeeper Mackenzie Viktor posted eight saves and surrendered two goals to progress her record in goal to 7-4-2.
North Dakota State is scheduled to return home to Dacotah Field on Friday, Oct. 17, for a Summit League match against South Dakota State at 7 p.m.
