NDSU Hosts South Dakota State, Travels to Fort Wayne this Weekend
        The North Dakota State women's soccer team will host the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits on Friday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. at Dacotah Field before traveling to Fort Wayne for a match on Sunday, Oct. 19, at noon ET (11 a.m. CT).
 
The Series against South Dakota State
Friday's Summit League contest against South Dakota State will mark the 18th meeting between the Bison and Jackrabbits in the all-time series that dates back to 2000 ... The Bison have a slight 8-7-2 advantage in the series ... NDSU faced the Jackrabbits twice last season, going 1-1. The Bison lost to SDSU in Brookings, S.D., 1-0, before upsetting the second-seeded Jackrabbits in The Summit League tournament, 2-1, in Fort Wayne, Ind.
 
The Series against Fort Wayne
Sunday's league contest at Fort Wayne will mark the 11th meeting between the Bison and the Mastodons in the all-time series that dates back to 2004 ... NDSU leads the series, 6-3-1 ... Last season NDSU claimed a 3-1 win over the Mastodons in Fargo ... The last loss in the series for the Bison was a 2-1 setback in overtime to IPFW in the 2012 Summit League Tournament in Sioux Falls, S.D.
 
About South Dakota State
The South Dakota State Jackrabbits enter the week at 7-5-1 overall and are 3-0-1 in Summit League competition after shutting out Oral Roberts in Brookings last Sunday, 3-0 ... The Jacks are 6-1-0 at home, 1-3-1 on the road and 0-1-0 at neutral locations this season ... Diana Potterveld leads the Jacks and The Summit League in totals points with 22 and assists with 10. She also has a team-high six goals on the season, including one game-winner, while Alyssa Brazil and Shelby Raper each have five goals on the season ... SDSU goalkeeper Elisa Stamatakis has made 10 appearances in goal with nine starts. She has allowed 13 goals and made 21 saves for a goals-against average (GAA) of 1.44. Stamatakis has a 5-2-1 record in 810:23 minutes between the posts with one shutout ... The Jackrabbits are averaging 1.92 goals per game while holding their opponents to 1.85 per game. SDSU is outshooting its opponents, on average, 15.1 to 11.5.
 
About Fort Wayne
The Fort Wayne Mastodons enter the week with an overall record of 2-10-1 and a Summit League mark of 0-2-1 after falling to IUPUI on Sunday, Oct. 12, 3-1 ... IPFW is 2-3-1 at home and 0-7-0 on the road this season.
Kallianne Mogler leads the Mastodons in total points with eight and assists with four. Mogler, Rachel Good, Mayson Whitman, Taylor Pavlika and Lindsey Swope have each scored two goals through 13 matches for Fort Wayne ... Goalkeeper Sam Pavlika has started all 13 matches in goal for Fort Wayne, making 88 saves while allowing 32 goals for a GAA of 2.74. She has a 2-10-1 record between the posts in 1050:03 minutes ... As a team, Fort Wayne averages 1.00 goals per game while surrendering 2.46 per game to its opponents. The Mastodons are outshot, on average, 21.0 to 8.1.
 
Catching Up with the Bison
NDSU enters the week with an overall record of 5-6-2 and a Summit League mark of 1-1-2 after tying South Dakota on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2-2 in double overtime, in Vermillion, S.D ... The tie at South Dakota Sunday and the 1-1 tie in double overtime at Omaha on Friday, Oct. 10, marked the first time NDSU has tied back-to-back matches since the 2010 season ... The tie at Omaha Friday was the first draw for the Bison since the 2011 season and was the first under third-season head coach Mark Cook ... After Omaha scored the opening goal of the match Friday, Amy Yang found an equalizer for the Bison in the 80th-minute of the contest. It marked Yang's second goal of the season and second strike in two matches ... Sunday at South Dakota, the Coyotes jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 11th-minute before Gaby Arnquist scored her first goal of the season on Yang's team-high fifth assist to knot the match at one in the 22nd-minute. Anisha Kinnarath gave the Bison a 2-1 advantage with a goal just four minutes later on a Lauren Miller assist. It was Kinnarath's opening score of 2014 and Miller's first assist. The Yotes leveled the match at two in the 41st-minute ... Goalkeeper Sierra Bonham made a combined 14 saves in the two ties for the Bison. At Omaha Friday, she made nine saves, before saving five shots at South Dakota on Sunday.
Through 13 matches, Miller leads the Bison in total points (15), goals (7), shots on goal (18) and game-winning goals (3). Yang is second in total points with nine and leads the team in assists with five. Lizzie Lukas (3), Kinnarath (1), Tiana Khamvongsa (1), Jaclyn Scanlan (1), Arnquist (1) and Sam Verbeke (1) have also scored goals for the Bison ... Bonham has made all 13 starts in goal for NDSU this season, making 55 saves while allowing 14 goals for a GAA of 1.07. The Red Deer, Alberta, native has a 5-6-2 record in 1182:13 minutes between the pipes with two shutouts and a save percentage of .797 ... NDSU is averaging 1.38 goals per game compared and holding its opponents to 1.08 per game. The Bison are being outshot by their adversaries, on average, 12.8 to 11.9. 
 
NDSU Tabbed Third in Summit League Preseason Poll
        The North Dakota State University women's soccer team was picked to finish third in The Summit League's preseason poll. Reigning league champion Denver was selected as the preseason favorite in a vote of the league's nine head coaches. South Dakota State was second followed by the Bison at third. Oral Roberts was fourth followed by Western Illinois at fifth and Fort Wayne at sixth. IUPUI, Omaha and South Dakota rounded out the poll at seventh, eighth and ninth.
 
Head Coach Mark Cook
           Mark Cook is entering his third season at the helm of the North Dakota State soccer program after being named head coach on Jan. 25, 2012.  He is the fourth head coach in the 17-year history of the program.
        Last season, Cook led NDSU to an overall record of 9-10 and a third place finish in The Summit League with a record of 4-3. The Bison advanced to The Summit League tournament championship match with a 2-1 upset win over South Dakota State before falling to Denver to finish runner-up in the event. It was NDSU's fifth straight appearance in the league tournament.
        Cook came to NDSU after serving as the Director of Coaching at the Minnesota Thunder Academy for 11 years, where he grew a four-team program into one of the premier club programs in the Twin Cities with 65 teams in 2012.
        He graduated from Alfred (N.Y.) University in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in communications. He was the starting goalkeeper at Alfred for two years.
 
The Opposing Coaches
Lang Wedemeyer - South Dakota State
        Lang Wedemeyer is in his 15th season as the head coach of the South Dakota State women's soccer program.
        Before taking his current post, Wedemeyer was the director of coaching and women's coordinator for the Roanoke Valley Youth Soccer Club. During his three-year tenure as the club's assistant executive director, he oversaw all 28 teams and their coaches.
        One of the youngest coaches in America to obtain all levels of coaching certification, he holds nine professional soccer coaching licenses, including a United State Soccer Federation "A" license and the NSCAA Premier diploma.
        While working on his master's degree at Old Dominion, he served as an assistant coach for the men's soccer team.
        Wedemeyer began his collegiate career at Virginia Tech University, where he was voted as the 'Hokies best defensive player for two years in a row. He later transferred to Old Dominion University (Va.), where he captained the team and earned second-team academic All-America honors in 1994.
        Wedemeyer also has extensive professional experience in the United Soccer Leagues. He played three years for his hometown Roanoke Wrath before joining the Sioux Falls Spitfire at the beginning of the team's first season in 2001
 
Jason Burr - Fort Wayne
        Jason Burr is in his first season at head coach of the IPFW women's soccer program.
        Most recently, Jason was the head coach at Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill., where he directed the program since 2012. Prior to taking over the Benedictine program he was an assistant coach and later interim head coach at Northern Illinois University, where he helped lead the program to a record 13-match unbeaten streak. Also in his four years with the Huskies, he helped mentor Lindsey Curnock, who set the Mid-American Conference (MAC) career shutout record with 28.
        Burr spent the 2007 season at Arkansas State where he helped lead the program to a 50-point jump in the RPI over just one season while also tying for the third-most single-season victories in program history. He was an assistant coach at Illinois State during the 2006 season.
        He was the head men's and women's soccer coach at Thomas More College from 2003-2005, leading the Saints to a combined overall record of 42-9-6, helping the team to a 2005 President's Athletic Conference Championship, and a 2003 NCAA Division III Tournament berth. Burr was the men's soccer assistant coach at Western Kentucky University for the 2002 season.
        A graduate of Austin Peay with a degree in history, Burr holds a United States Soccer Federation National "B" License, and has also worked with the Northern Illinois Football Club (2010-12) and the Olympic Development Program (Region II) in DeKalb, Ill.
