Stoudt Seventh in California Invitational Decathlon after Day One

AZUSA, Calif. – North Dakota State redshirt freshman Angus Stoudt scored 3,558 points on the first day of the California Invitational decathlon to lead the NDSU men's track & field team on Wednesday, Apr. 16.
Stoudt stands in seventh place of the 18 competitors in the 'A' section of the decathlon hosted by Azusa Pacific University. He set season-best marks in all five events contested Wednesday.
Stoudt opened by running 11.61 in the 100m and followed up with a jump of 21-08.75 (6.62m) in the long jump. He posted a throw of 39-10.75 (12.16m) in the shot put, cleared 6-04.00 (1.93m) in the high jump, and capped the day with a time of 51.50 in the 400m dash.
Bison redshirt freshman Grant Mjelstad scored 3,392 points to stand in fifth place in the 'B' section of the California Invitational decathlon. Freshman Matt Neururer is in eighth place with 3,353 points, and junior Beau Gagnon is 12th with 3,274 points.
Neururer cleared 6-05.00 (1.96m) in the high jump for the third-best mark in the 'B' section, and he also clocked 50.68 in the 400m for the third-fastest mark in the field. Mjelstad leaped a personal best 21-08.00 (6.60m) in the long jump for the fourth-best mark, then closed the day with personal-best efforts in the high jump (6-01.50) and 400m (51.79).
The decathlon will conclude on Thursday, Apr. 17, at Azusa Pacific.
