Jerome Begin finished first and nearly set a new personal record in the 400m hurdles Saturday, April 19, at the Beach Invitational in Norwalk, Calif., to lead the Bison men's outdoor track and field team on their final day in California.
Begin recorded a new season-best time of 52.49, just short of his PR of 52.41 set last season at the NCAA West Prelims. The time ranks second in The Summit League.
In the javelin, Tyler Parker placed fourth with a distance of 62.86m (206 feet, 3 inches). The distance is second-longest in league competition this season.
Alec Espeland also nearly matched his PR of 1:50.48, set last season at the Stanford Invitational, in the 800m run at the Beach Invitational Saturday, placing sixth with a Summit League-best time of 1:50.88.
Grant Mjelstad cleared a height of 4.88m (16 feet) in the pole vault to finish seventh for the Bison. The height ranks fourth-best in Summit League competition.
Alex Renner finished 11th in the shot put with a distance of 16.43m (53 feet, 11 inches) that ranks fourth-longest in the league in 2014.
In the triple jump, Colin Paarmann finished in the top-20, placing 16th with a distance of 13.63m (44 feet, 8.75 inches).
The Bison men return to action April 23-26 at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
