NDSU Men’s Track & Field Gets Started at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa – The North Dakota State men's track & field team completed the first day of competition at the 105th Drake Relays on Friday, Apr. 25.
NDSU alum and reigning USA champion Riley Dolezal won the javelin with a throw of 250-8 (76.40m) to stay unbeaten for his 2014 season. Bison sophomore Quinn Baumann placed fourth among collegians at 202-6 (61.72m), and Adam Coykendall registered a season-best toss of 189-9 (57.84m).
Bison assistant coach Trevor Barry placed fourth in one of the best high jump competitions in recent American history. Barry cleared 7-04.50 (2.25m), while champion Derek Drouin jumped 7-10.50 (2.40m) for a new Canadian record and world-leading mark this season.
Jerome Begin, Donte Smart, Alec Espeland and Alex Neumiller teamed up to run a season-best time for NDSU in the 4x400m relay, crossing the line in 3:16.72.
Dalton Herding, Pres Harris, Matt Jennings and Jonah Warwick placed 10th in the 4x800m relay with a time of 7:45.55.
Nate Mattson, Neumiller, Ben Neyers and Wesley DeLong placed 12th in the 4x200m relay, finishing in 1:27.65. Smart, Colin Paarmann, Mattson and Neyers posted a time of 42.10 in the 4x100m relay for 27th place.
At the Kip Janvrin Open hosted by Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, junior Marty Joyce registered a personal-best by 14 seconds in the 5,000m, finishing seventh overall in 14:50.14. NDSU sophomore Brendan Skime posted a 20-second personal-best performance of his own, taking 11th place in 14:55.81.
Junior Lucas DeGree ran a personal-best 1500m time of 3:57.58 for second place.
NDSU will conclude competition at the Drake Relays on Saturday.
