Shuttle Hurdle Relay Leads NDSU Men at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa – North Dakota State University hurdlers Jerome Begin, Colin Paarmann, Angus Stoudt and Loren Bothun raced to a second-place finish in the men's shuttle hurdle relay to lead a day of strong performances by the Bison men's track & field team at the Drake Relays on Saturday, Apr. 26. The quartet recorded a time of 58.11 in the finals – the second-fastest in NDSU history.
With a junior, a sophomore and two freshmen on the relay team, the Bison were only six-hundredths of a second off the school record of 58.05 set two years ago.
NDSU senior Alec Espeland ran 1:52.79 in the 800m for fourth place overall. Moses Heppner finished seventh in 1:53.89.
In the 1600m medley relay, Nate Mattson, Alex Neumiller, Donte Smart and Dalton Herding ran to the seventh-fastest time in school history, placing 15th overall in 3:26.18.
Sophomore Brandt Berghuis placed eighth in the hammer throw with a mark of 191-1 (58.25m), and Trevor Berner was 15th at 182-0 (55.47m). NDSU redshirt freshman Alex Renner finished 17th in the shot put with his mark of 54-08.25 (16.67m).
Former NDSU pole vaulter Shawn Francis cleared 18-00.50 (5.50m) on his third attempt to place fourth in the men's special invitational pole vault – a competition which featured world record holder Renaud Lavillenie.
