FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State University women's soccer team started the 2014 season with a convincing 4-0 shutout win over the University of Jamestown Jimmies in a weather-shortened exhibition match Saturday, Aug. 16, under the lights of Dacotah Field. The match was called due to inclement weather with 12:30 remaining in the second-half.
Lizzie Lukas paced the Bison with a goal and an assist while Olivia Norman, Tiana Khamvongsa and Genna Joyce also found the back of the net for NDSU.
Lukas broke the scoreless draw just three minutes into the match, redirecting a Lauren Miller shot off the right post into the lower right corner of the goal to put the Bison up early, 1-0. Less than three minutes later, NDSU increased its advantage to 2-0 after Norman powered a Lukas pass from just outside the box into the back of the net. Khamvongsa made it 3-0 North Dakota State right before the end of the first-half in the 37th-minute after she slotted a short pass from Anisha Kinnarath home.
The Bison continued the offensive surge in the second-half, netting their fourth goal in the 64th-minute after Genna Joyce calmly redirected a long pass from Miller into the lower right corner of the net.
The NDSU defense held Jamestown without a shot the entire match as the Bison outshot the Jimmies, 21-0.
Bison goalkeepers Sierra Bonham and Jenna Zaeske combined to post the shutout between the pipes, with Bonham picking up the win.
North Dakota State is scheduled to return to action Tuesday, Aug. 19, when it hosts Bemidji State in exhibition action at Dacotah Field. First kick is slated for 7 p.m.
