TEMPE, Ariz. – Junior Brandt Berghuis led the North Dakota State men's throwers at the Baldy Castillo Invitational hosted by Arizona State on Friday afternoon. Berghuis recorded a throw of 195-9 (59.68m) for sixth place in the hammer throw, coming within three inches of his personal-best mark in the event in his 2015 outdoor debut.

Berghuis, a Rosemount, Minn., native, ranks third in NDSU history in the hammer throw with his personal-best toss of 196-0 last season.

NDSU senior Trevor Berner placed 12th with a mark of 182-3 (55.56m). Both Berghuis and Berner qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds in the hammer throw last season.

Bison sophomore Alex Renner took 14th place in the hammer throw at 178-11 (54.55m) – just eight inches short of his PR from last year.

Only one event was contested on Friday, with the majority of events scheduled for tomorrow at Sun Angel Stadium.
