MACOMB, Ill. – The North Dakota State men's track & field team rolled to its sixth consecutive Summit League outdoor team championship on Friday at Hanson Field, recording the fourth-highest point total in league history.
NDSU won with 266.5 points – the highest score since Southern Utah in 2007 before the Bison joined the league. South Dakota finished second with 199 points. The Bison have now won seven of The Summit League's eight outdoor titles since they joined the league.
NDSU's Alex Renner earned the league's Championship Field MVP award after winning the hammer throw and shot put for 20 team points. Freshman Landon Jochim was named the league's Newcomer of the Championship following a title in the 400m dash, a sixth-place finish in the 200m dash, and running legs on both Bison relay teams.
Back-to-back championships in the 110m hurdles and the 400m dash sparked the Bison men to run away with the team race. Junior Parker McKittrick clocked a career-best 14.27 seconds in the hurdles for his first conference title, and minutes later Jochim held off Oral Roberts' D'Khari Hicks to win the 400m in 47.79.
Both McKittrick and Jochim were ranked second in their respective events entering the meet.
Angus Stoudt (personal-best 14.50) and Colin Paarmann (personal-best 14.86) took third and fourth behind McKittrick in the 110m hurdles, putting the Bison 100 points ahead of South Dakota early in the final day. Paarmann also earned an all-league finish in the triple jump later, leaping an outdoor personal-best 46-01.25 (14.05m) for third place.
Redshirt freshman Aron Klos surged late for a second-place finish in the 400m hurdles in 52.05, making him the second-fastest Bison ever in the event. He now ranks 43rd in the NCAA West Region this year. Freshman Matt Bedard took fourth in 53.13.
Redshirt freshman Steffan Stroh led the Bison men to a 3-4-5-8 finish in the discus, throwing a personal-best 166-6 (50.76m) that ranks him eighth in NDSU history.
Sophomore Jonah Warwick raced to an All-Summit League finish in the 800m, crossing the line in 1:52.88 for third place. Lucas DeGree earned an All-Summit League honor in the 1500m, placing third in 3:56.09. Brant Gilbertson was seventh, and Brendan Skime took eighth for the Bison.
Bedard, Klos, Jochim & Warwick claimed a runner-up finish in the 4x400m relay in 3:12.53 to cap the meet. Paarmann, McKittrick, Wesley DeLong and Jochim took fourth in the 4x100m relay in a season-best 41.67.
