AUSTIN, Texas – The North Dakota State men's track & field team opened competition with a pair of freshmen representing the Bison on Thursday at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds.
In the discus, freshman Payton Otterdahl recorded a mark of 167-5 (51.02m), finishing in 37th place after entering the meet ranked 47th. Otterdahl ends his freshman season in the discus ranked second all-time at NDSU. He will compete in the shot put along with teammate Alex Renner on Friday.
Redshirt freshman Aron Klos took 43rd place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.03. He concludes his first collegiate season ranked No. 2 in NDSU history in the event.
The top 12 finishers in each event at the Preliminary Rounds advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 10-13.
The Bison men will continue competition at the NCAA West Prelims over the next two days. Tomorrow's men's action begins at 2 p.m. with Renner and Brandt Berghuis in the hammer throw.
