Bison Men Travel to Texas for NCAA West Preliminary Rounds

Meet Information
The North Dakota State men's track & field team has qualified 10 student-athletes to the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds, marking the largest group of national qualifiers in the school's Division I history.
With throwers Alex Renner and Payton Otterdahl both entered in a pair of events, the Bison men will have 12 entries at the meet – an improvement over the previous high of seven set last season.
The meet will be hosted by the University of Texas in Austin, Texas, on May 28-30.

How to Advance
The top 12 finishers in each event at the Preliminary Rounds will advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 10-13.
In the discus, shot put, javelin and hammer throw, all 48 competitors will receive a single round of three attempts. The top 12 marks overall advance to the NCAA Championships.
In the 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles, the top three finishers from each heat plus the next six fastest times (24) will advance to the quarterfinals. The top three finishers from each heat plus the next three fastest times (12) will advance to the NCAA Championships.
In the 3,000m steeplechase, the top three from three quarterfinal heats, plus the next three fastest times (12), advance to the NCAA Championships.
Elite Throws Program
The NDSU men have nine entries in the throwing events for the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds, which is second only to Florida State (10) for the most in the nation. The Bison men and women combined for 17 entries in the throwing events at the NCAA Prelims -- tied for the second-most in the country.
All But One Return
Brett Kelly is the lone senior in this year's group of men's qualifiers for the NCAA Prelims.
