Quick Notes:
  • The North Dakota State women's soccer team is scheduled to host a pair of key Summit League matches Friday, Oct. 14, and Sunday, Oct. 16, at Dacotah Field. The Bison welcome Denver Friday at 7 p.m. before hosting South Dakota State Sunday at 1 p.m. Denver and SDSU are currently tied atop the league standings, while the Bison are one game back in second. 
  • NDSU went 1-1 last weekend, falling at South Dakota, 4-0, before defeating Western Illinois, 3-0.
  • For the first time in program history, North Dakota State was picked as the preseason favorite in The Summit League preseason coaches' poll.
  • North Dakota State returns seven starters from last season's Summit League regular season championship team, including six All-Summit League honorees. 
  • The Bison welcome back reigning Summit League Offensive Player of the Year Lauren Miller and Freshman of the Year Britney Monteon

Series History - Denver
    The match against Denver Friday will be the fifth meeting in the all-time series. The Pioneers lead the series, 3-1-0. NDSU earned its inaugural win in the series last year when it defeated Denver, 4-3, in double overtime in Denver, Colo. 

Series History - South Dakota State
    Sunday's contest against South Dakota State will mark the 22nd meeting in the all-time series. The series is currently tied, 9-9-3. Last season, the Bison and Jackrabbits played to a scoreless draw in double overtime in Brookings, S.D., before SDSU defeated NDSU in The Summit League tournament championship match, 3-0. 

Scouting Denver
  • The University of Denver Pioneers enter the weekend at 6-7-0 overall and 3-0-0 in Summit League play after claiming a 1-0 win at home against South Dakota Oct. 9. 
  • Denver was picked to finish fourth in The Summit League preseason coaches' poll. 
  • Through 13 matches, freshman midfielder Hannah Adler leads the Pioneers offensively with three goals, two assists and eight points, while junior forward Jessie Dancy is second on the team with two goals. Junior defender Makenzie Bothner and junior forward Angelica Pacheco both have a team-best three assists. 
  • Senior goalkeeper Cassidy Rey and freshman goalkeeper Brittany Wilson have split time in-goal this season for Denver. Rey has played in 10 matches with eight starts. She is 3-2-0 with 20 saves and six goals allowed, and has a 1.24 goals-against average (GAA) in 437:53 minutes. Wilson has played in 13 matches with five starts. She is 3-4-0 with 38 saves and 15 goals allowed, and has a 1.94 GAA in 741:25 minutes. 
  • As a team, Denver is averaging 0.77 goals per game while allowing 1.69 goals per game. The Pioneers are being outshot 12.0 to 9.6.  
  • Denver is under the direction of 25th season head coach Jeff Hooker

Scouting South Dakota State
  • The South Dakota State University Jackrabbits enter the weekend at 8-4-1 overall and 3-0-0 in Summit League action after earning a 2-0 win over Western Illinois Oct. 7 and a 5-1 victory over Oral Roberts Oct. 9.
  • The Jacks have won their last six matches. 
  • SDSU is scheduled to play at South Dakota Friday before taking on the Bison Sunday. 
  • The Jackrabbits were picked second in The Summit League preseason coaches' poll. 
  • Through 13 contests, senior midfielder Madison Yueill and junior forward Nicole Hatcher both have four goals, leading South Dakota State offensively. Hatcher also has a team and Summit League-high eight assists for 16 points. 
  • Jackrabbit goalkeepers Maggie Smither and Nicole Inskeep have split time in-goal this season. Smither, a redshirt freshman, has played in 11 matches with five starts and has a Summit League-low 0.17 GAA. She is 6-0-1 with 25 saves in 515 minutes and has given up only one goal this season for a .962 save percentage. Inskeep, a senior, has played in 13 contests with seven starts and has a 1.02 GAA. She is 2-4-0 with 16 saves in 705:36 minutes and has surrendered eight goals for a .667 save percentage. 
  • As a team, SDSU is averaging 1.85 goals per game while surrendering only 0.69 goals per game. The Jacks lead The Summit League in GAA (0.66) and goals allowed (9). South Dakota State is outshooting opponents, 11.9 to 11.6. 
  • SDSU is under the leadership of 17th season head coach Lang Wedemeyer

Catching Up with The Herd
  • The Bison enter the weekend at 8-6-0 overall and 3-1-0 in Summit League play.
  • Through 14 matches, the Bison are led offensively by Holly Enderle with a team and Summit League-high eight goals to go along with one assist, while Amy Yang has a team and Summit League-best four game-winning goals and five assists. Mariah Haberle has a team-high six assists and two goals, and Lauren Miller has one goal and five assists. Lizzie Lukas (three goals), Malley O'Brien (two goals), Autumn Muckenhirn (one goal), Mallory Fenske (one goal), Natalie Fenske (one goal), Hannah Butzlaff (one goal), Olivia Norman (one goal) and Anna Reinholz (one goal) have also scored goals for NDSU. 
  • NDSU freshman goalkeeper Monica Polgar is 7-6-0 with a Summit League-high five shutouts and has played and started 13 of 14 matches in-goal for the Bison. She has surrendered 18 goals while making 49 saves in 1155:55 minutes for a 1.40 GAA. 
  • As a team, the Bison are averaging 1.86 goals per game while allowing 1.29 goals per game. NDSU is being outshot, on average, 12.6 to 11.8.  
  • NDSU is outscoring its opponents in the first-half, 14-8, and in the second-half, 12-10. 
  • North Dakota State returns 92 percent of its scoring from last season. 
  • The Bison return every player who netted a game-winning goal in 2015. 

NDSU in the NCAA National Statistics
  • Amy Yang ranks 16th in the latest NCAA Division I women's soccer national statistics with four game-winning goals. Holly Enderle is currently 51st in game-winners with three. 
  • Mariah Haberle ranks 37th in assists with six, while Yang and Lauren Miller both rank 80th with five assists each. 
  • Haberle is 61st in assists per game at 0.43. 
  • Enderle ranks 52nd in goals with eight. 
  • Monica Polgar is 44th in shutouts with five. 
  • As a team, NDSU ranks 60th in assists (23) and goals (26), 65th in points (75), 70th in scoring offense (1.86 goals per game), 74th in assists per game (1.64) and 77th in points per game (5.36).

Summit League Player of the Week Honors
Hat-Trick Holly
    Holly Enderle became the first Bison to tally two hat tricks in one season since Lauren Miller accomplished the feat last season. Enderle compiled hat tricks at UND Sept. 2 and at UNC Asheville Sept. 16. Miller tallied hat tricks against St. Cloud State and at Denver last season. 

Head Coach Mark Cook
    Mark Cook is in his fifth season at the helm of the North Dakota State soccer program after being named head coach in 2012.  He is the fourth head coach in the 20-year history of the program.
     Cook led NDSU to its first Summit League regular season title since 2009 with a 7-0-1 Summit League record in 2015. It was the first time in program history the Bison finished league play unbeaten. NDSU qualified for its seventh consecutive Summit League tournament and advanced to the tournament championship match for the second time in three seasons before falling to South Dakota State to finish the season at 13-6-1 overall. A program record nine student-athletes earned All-Summit League honors, including Goalkeeper of the Year Sierra Bonham, Offensive Player of the Year Lauren Miller and Freshman of the Year Britney Monteon. In addition, Cook was voted The Summit League Coach of the Year. Miller, along with Amy Yang, were named to the NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region Third Team to become the first Bison to be named NSCAA All-Region since 2003 and the first for North Dakota State in the Division I era. 
     Cook came to NDSU after serving as the Director of Coaching at the Minnesota Thunder Academy for 11 years, where he grew a four-team program into one of the premier club programs in the Twin Cities with 65 teams in 2012.
     Cook holds the United States Soccer Federation 'A' coaching license, the highest certification available in the U.S.  He also has the NSCAA Premier License and Director of Coaching Diploma.
     He graduated from Alfred (N.Y.) University in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in communications. He was the starting goalkeeper at Alfred for two years.

On the Horizon
    North Dakota State travels to Fort Wayne, Ind., Oct. 23 for a league match against the Fort Wayne Mastodons.
