MOORHEAD, Minn.--North Dakota State University 141-pounder David Flynn, 184 Logan Paxton and 197 Alex Bleeker each claimed individual titles at the Dragon Open hosted by Minnesota State Moorhead on Sunday, Dec. 4. The Bison also had a trio of runner-up finishes and one third place showing out of 14 wrestlers competing.
Flynn, a redshirt freshman from Jordan, Minn. (Scott West H.S.), won three matches including a pair of falls at 141 pounds. Flynn is now 9-3 with four pins.
Paxton, a senior from Elk Grove, Calif. (Sacramento C.C. / Pleasant Grove H.S.), went 3-0 including a major decision and a fall at 184 pounds. Paxton improved to 6-1 this season with a pair of pins.
Bleeker, a redshirt freshman from Pekin, Ill. (Pekin Community H.S.), opened with his second pin of the season and wrapped up 197 pounds with a pair of decisions. Bleeker is now 9-2 with two pins.
Unattached 141 freshman Nate Smith (3-1), 184 redshirt freshman Vincent Feola ( and 285 redshirt freshman Dan Stibral (2-1) all finished second, while 157 redshirt freshman Nick Mergen (4-1) placed third.
On Saturday, Dec. 3, at the UNI Open in Cedar Falls, Iowa, unattached 125 freshman Paul Bianchi placed sixth after winning three of four matches. Bianchi pushed his record to 9-2 with three pins, one tech fall and a major decision. He was one of three
