Walk-Off Home Run Lifts Lamar to 7-6 Win over NDSU Baseball Friday Evening

BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar's Bryndan Arredondo hit a walk-off home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Cardinals to a 7-6 win over the North Dakota State University baseball team in the opening game of a four-game series on Friday, Feb. 26, at Vincent-Beck Stadium in Beaumont.
Lamar (6-0) and North Dakota State (3-1) are scheduled to continue the series with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27.
Sophomore third baseman Mason Pierzchalski went 3-of-5 at the plate with an RBI, junior right fielder Ben Petersen tallied two hits, including a triple, and drove in a run, and sophomore infielder Drew Fearing compiled a pair of RBIs to lead the Bison in the batter's box.
Left-handed pitcher Zach Mayo pitched four innings and struck out a career-high six batters in his first start of the season, while southpaw Blake Stockert fanned a career-best five batters in four innings of relief.
Sean Terres (0-1) suffered the loss on the mound for NDSU after surrendering the game-winning home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The Bison gained a 3-1 lead after plating three runs in the top of the fourth-inning when Logan Busch drew a two-out bases-loaded walk and Fearing smacked a two-out, two RBI single to left field.
Lamar answered, though, scoring five runs in the bottom of the fifth to regain the lead at 6-3.
NDSU knotted the game at six with a trio of runs in the top of the seventh. Brayden Resch led-off the inning with a walk, before scoring on Petersen's RBI triple to right center. Pierzchalski singled to right center, scoring Petersen for the second run of the frame, before Jayse McLean hit a single to drive in Taylor Sanders and tie the game.
The game remained deadlocked at six until Arredondo hit a 3-1 pitch over the left field fence in the bottom of the ninth.
