EUGENE, Ore. – The North Dakota State men's track & field team earned a pair of second team All-America honors on Wednesday evening at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Hayward Field.
Junior Matti Mortimore placed 12th in the javelin, and junior Alex Renner finished 14th in the shot put for the Bison men. Their finishes are the second- and third-best in NDSU's Division I outdoor history, behind only Mortimore's seventh-place finish in the javelin last year.
Mortimore became the first NDSU men's track & field athlete to earn two All-America honors at the Division I level. He threw 230-8 (70.30m) on his second attempt for his best mark on Wednesday.
Renner posted a mark of 61-05.75 (18.74m) on his first throw in the shot put to finish 14th – an improvement over his No. 17 ranking entering the meet. It was the first national meet appearance and first All-America honor of Renner's career.
The top eight finishers in all events earn first team All-American honors, and places 9 through 16 are named second team All-Americans.
Both Mortimore and Renner are the NDSU school record holders in their respective events.
