Bismarck Natives Shine for NDSU Track & Field at Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. – The North Dakota State men's track & field team was led by strong performances from a number of Bismarck, N.D., natives at the Adidas Classic hosted by Nebraska on Saturday.
In his NDSU debut, junior Jake Leingang broke the school record in the 3,000m, running 8:06.18 to win the event and rank among the top 20 in the country this season. Leingang, a Bismarck native and transfer from Oregon, trimmed two and a half seconds off Travis Fitzke's five-year-old school record.
Junior Landon Jochim (Bismarck Century HS) remained unbeaten in the 400m dash this season, winning in 47.78 for the second-fastest indoor time of his career. Sophomore Byrne Curl, a St. Mary's Central product from Bismarck, ran 1:20.66 for a third-place finish in the 600m – ranking him No. 5 all-time at NDSU in the event.
The NDSU men took five of the top seven places in the shot put, led by senior Alex Renner who won with a mark of 61-05.75 (18.74m).
Junior Payton Otterdahl stayed undefeated in the weight throw this season, winning with a mark of 66-01.00 (20.14m). Otterdahl has surpassed the 20-meter barrier in every meet this year. Bison senior Conrad Schwarzkopf placed third, and junior Steffan Stroh was sixth.
Otterdahl also finished as the runner-up in the shot put at 59-00.25 (17.99m), while Stroh took fourth and Schwarzkopf placed sixth.
Freshman Tony Ukkelberg earned a runner-up finish in the long jump, leaping 22-11.00 (6.98m) for the best indoor mark by a Bison since 2015.
In the 800m, sophomore Jacob Richter placed third in 1:55.11, and senior Jonah Warwick finished fourth in 1:55.47.
Sophomore Camron Roehl posted a personal-best 3,000m time of 8:36.33 to take fifth behind Leingang, and redshirt freshman Elliott Stone was sixth in 8:39.33.
Bison sophomore Ryan Enerson clocked a personal-best 8.32 seconds in the 60m hurdles to take fourth place. NDSU freshman Connor Salisbury (Dilworth, Minn.) cleared a season-best 15-06.50 (4.74m) in the pole vault for eighth place.
Freshman Chris Cook cleared 6-04.00 (1.93m) in the high jump for fifth place.
NDSU returns home to host the Bison Open on Feb. 3-4 next weekend.
