BROOKINGS, S.D. – A decade has come and gone now, and no school other than North Dakota State has walked away from the Summit League Indoor Track & Field Championships with the women's first place trophy.
The Bison women made it 10 consecutive conference indoor team titles on Saturday, winning it like they always have – with several outstanding individual performances and an extremely deep team effort. Including the outdoor season, NDSU has now won 19 straight Summit League crowns.
NDSU finished with 226 points, and South Dakota was the runner-up with 206.5. South Dakota State took third with 128 points.
Senior Rose Jackson certainly did her part to extend NDSU's run of dominance, winning the 200m dash and placing third in the 60m dash, one day after she claimed league titles in the pentathlon and long jump. Jackson clocked personal-bests in both events on Saturday – 24.21 to win the 200m and rank second all-time at NDSU, and 7.62 seconds in the 60m to rank No. 3 in NDSU history.
Bison senior Morgan Milbrath had an impressive day as well. She ran a school-record and meet-record 53.58 to capture the 400m dash title, then came back later with a lifetime-best 24.28 in the 200m dash for a runner-up finish behind Jackson and the No. 4 spot in the NDSU record books.
Senior Taylor Janssen made a statement for the Bison early in the day, gutting out a win down the home stretch in the mile in a career-best time of 4:53.94. Senior Amy Andrushko defended her Summit League crown in the 800m, winning in 2:08.74 to break the meet record.
Alexis Woods, Milbrath, Jackson and Andrushko put the exclamation point on the meet with a victory in the 4x400m relay, posting a time of 3:44.22.
"It was just an all-around great effort by our women," said NDSU women's head coach Stevie Keller. "We had outstanding performances all over the place, and that's what it takes to win a team title. Our ladies really rallied around each other and competed great all weekend."
Woods joined Milbrath in breaking the 400m dash meet record, clocking 53.95 for second place. She became only the third woman in NDSU history to go under 54 seconds in the indoor 400m.
The Bison women scored big in the shot put, finishing 2-3-4-5-6 with Courtney Pasiowitz, Bailey Retzlaff, Shelby Gunnells, Jordyn Thornton and Katelyn Weimerskirch, racking up 26 team points.
Freshman Macy Denzer earned All-Summit League honors with a third-place finish in the 60m hurdles, clocking a personal-best 8.75 seconds to rank fifth all-time at NDSU.
Annika Rotvold placed third and Kayla Huhnerkoch finished fifth in the mile behind Janssen's title. Junior Amanda Levin ran a personal-best 56.36 in the 400m for fourth place, giving the Bison women a 1-2-4 finish. Levin also tied for fifth in the high jump.
Bison junior Lauren Gietzen cleared 12-11.00 (3.94m) in the pole vault for fourth place, and sophomore Klara Lyon took seventh at 12-05.25 (3.79m). The NDSU women also place two in the triple jump, with Piper Jensen taking fifth at 37-03.75 (11.37m) and Bailey DeMar in sixth with a personal-best 37-01.25 (11.31m).
