FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State men's track & field team claimed five of the top six places in the hammer throw to headline the opening day of the Lyle Hokanson Classic on Friday.
Junior Steffan Stroh won the hammer, throwing 209-0 (63.70m). He ranks among the nation's top 40 in the event this season.
Senior Alex Renner was the runner-up with a career-best toss of 205-2 (62.54m), moving up to No. 55 in the NCAA this season and No. 3 all-time at NDSU. Bison senior Conrad Schwarzkopf posted a season-best mark of 199-7 (60.84m), climbing to No. 70 on the NCAA list.
Redshirt freshman Michael Keogan added a remarkable 14 feet to his personal-best, placing fifth in the meet at 195-0 (59.43m). He now ranks eighth in NDSU history.
NDSU junior Jacob McBride finished sixth with a throw of 192-3 (58.60m).
The Lyle Hokanson Classic will conclude Saturday at Schlanser Track on the NDSU campus.
