Klieman Named Head Coach at Kansas State, Plans to Coach NDSU Through FCS Playoffs

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State University head football coach Chris Klieman plans to continue coaching the Bison in the FCS playoffs after being named the next head coach of the Kansas State University football program on Monday, Dec. 10.

Klieman, who has a 67-6 record in his fifth season as head coach at NDSU, has led the Bison to five Missouri Valley Football Conference championships and three FCS national titles. NDSU is currently 13-0 and hosts South Dakota State in the national semifinals Friday, Dec. 14.

NDSU will begin the process of securing its next head football coach immediately.

"I want to congratulate Coach Klieman and sincerely thank him for the impact he's had these past five years on the NDSU football program, our players, the Fargo community and Bison Nation," said NDSU athletic director Matt Larsen.

"Aside from the incredible success on the field, his players consistently excelled at a high level in the classroom and willingly gave back to the community. He has always honored and preserved the traditions and culture of excellence surrounding Bison football, and for that I am forever grateful."

Klieman has been part of all six FCS national championships since coming to NDSU as the defensive backs coach in 2011. He was elevated to defensive coordinator in 2012 and named head coach for the 2014 season.

Klieman was named the 2017 Missouri Valley Football Conference Coach of the Year and is a four-time finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award, presented to the FCS Coach of the Year.
